Half Moon win U12 Mixed Cup title

17th June 2024

Half Moon adds another team to Swim Ireland Water Polo’s roll of honour. They emerged victorious in a well fought final against North Dublin in the U12 Mixed Cup, on Saturday the 15th of June, in the National Aquatic Centre. With both clubs winning their respective groups the weekend prior, Half Moon faced Drogheda in their semi-final where they came away with a comfortable 12-1 win. The other semi-final proved a much tighter game with North Dublin beating Newry & Mourne 5-4 in the final quarter, to secure their spot in the final.

The final was an incredible affair, with Half Moon claiming the title of U12 Mixed cup champions, with a brilliant 10-2 win against a strong North Dublin team.

In the 3rd/4th playoff Newry & Mourne claimed the bronze medal with an 4-2 win over Drogheda.

Girls MVP of the tournament was Ciara Breslin (Half Moon).

Boys MVP of the tournament was Tomas Egan (Half Moon).

A big thank you to our tournament directors over the two weekends, Gabor Deak and Keith Lynch, to all our referees & table officials, President of Ireland Water Polo Adrian Hanna Senior, who was in attendance for the presentations of medals and in particular our Swim Ireland Water Polo Team, Aveen Colvin and Kirstie Stevenson for their preparations for the weekend.

Also thank you to the duty manager and the staff located in the National Aquatic Centre who were very obliging in making hours available over the weekend and providing assistance when needed.
