Clonard and Tribes win U15 Cup titles

Clonard won the Boys U15 Cup title after beating 2023 winners Corrib in this evenings final. The two finalists had already met in their first group game on Friday evening where it finished 4-4 with Corrib going on to edge top spot in their group on goal difference after both teams won all their other three group games. In Group B Sandycove comfortably topped their group winning all four group games, with Belfast side Cathal Brugha narrowly taking second spot over Half Moon on goal difference after both teams also drew 4-4 in their group game on Friday night.
The semi finals saw Corrib beat Belfast club Cathal Brugha 12-6 while Clonard edged past Sandycove 9-7 to set up a rematch against Corrib.
In the final, Clonard started the better team to take control in the second quarter to lead at half time 6-4, a lead in which they held in the second half to finish 9-5 winners and win their third U15 Cup title.
In the Bronze medal match Sandycove came out on top against Cathal Brugha to take 3rd place with a 17-5 win.
Boys MVP of the tournament was Caomhan O’Meallain (Clonard).
In the girls competition Tribes won the U15 Cup for the fourth year a row after beating Sandycove in the final. Both finalists were unbeaten heading into the final as both teams topped their groups winning all four group games. In the semi final Sandycove went on to face Belfast side Clonard (13-10) while in the second semi, Tribes faced Half Moon where they were comfortable winners over the Dublin side (10-3).
In the final, it was the Galway side who lead from start to finish with a strong performance winning out 20-5 over Sandycove to win their 7th U15 Cup title.
In the bronze medal match it was Half Moon who took home 3rd place beating Clonard 9-7.
Girls MVP of the tournament was Lana Awaja (Tribes).
A big thank you to our delegate Decky McKerr, all our referees & table officials, President of Ireland Water Polo Adrian Hanna who was in attendance for the presentations of medals and in particular to Tournament Directors, Eamon Caulfield and Teresa Moran for organising and running the tournament over the weekend.
Also thank you to our pool providers in Leisureland and Kingfisher Pool as well as their staff who were very obliging in making hours available over the weekend and providing assistance when needed.
