Irish U14 Boys Claim Silver!

Last weekend saw ten teams head to Walsall, UK aiming to be crowned U14 Boys Inter-Regional champions at Walsall Gala Baths.
The West Midlands Region hosted the competition on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th November.
There were two groups of five teams:
Group A
- Ireland
- North West Tigers
- London Sharks
- East Midlands
- South East
Group B
- Scotland Saltires
- East
- South West Sharks
- West Midland Warriors
- North East Steelers
The group games took place on Saturday with the top two from each contesting the semi-finals on Sunday.
The Irish boys came through the group stages with three wins from four beating London Sharks 3-1, South East 6-1 and East Midlands 14-4 and lost only one match to North West Tigers.
Ireland went on to play South West Sharks in the semi-finals coming out on top 5-1 sending them into the final to face North West Tigers once again.
The team battled hard to try and re-write the wrongs from their first encounter with the Tigers but it wasn’t to be on the day.
Our Irish boys took home the well deserved silver medal following a great display of water polo all weekend.
The top five teams overall will now form Division Once for the U16 Boys Inter-Regional Championships 2025, subject to entries.
Congratulations to the boys on what was for many their first trip away with a National Team.
Ireland Water Polo would like to give a special mention to the team staff who have spent the last couple of months preparing the team both in the build up to the tournament and over the weekend. Without their time and dedication success like this would not be possible.
