Corrib and Tribes win U19 Cup titles

Corrib retained their Boys U19 Cup title after beating Dublin club St. Vincent’s in what was a repeat of the 2022 final. Both finalist went unbeaten heading into the final with Vincents winning their 3 group games and Corrib winning their two group games after been drawn in the group of three teams. With both teams topping their groups, St Vincents, as group A winners, faced runners up from group B Clonard who they beat 10-5 to advance to the final. In the other semi, Corrib faced group A runners up Cathal Brugha winning 16-3.
In the final, it was the Galway side who proved too strong, leading 7-3 at HT, a lead they kept throughout the second half to finish 10-6 winners, as they won their 6th U19 Cup title.
Boys MVP of the tournament was Austin Murphy (Corrib).
In the girls competition Tribes won the U19 Cup for the first time since 2017 beating St Vincent’s in the final. As in the boys competition both finalist went unbeaten heading into the final with Tribes winning their group with 3 wins out of 3 while St Vincents topped the group of 3 teams with 2 wins. Tribes went on to face Clonard in their semi final where they were comfortable winners (19-4), while the second semi final proved a much tighter affair with St Vincents facing 2022 winners Cathal Brugha with the game finishing 9-7.
In the final, it was another close game, with both teams tied at 3-3 at HT before the Galway side pulled ahead in the second half to win 7-3 in the end to win their 4th U19 Cup title.
Girls MVP of the tournament was Laura Casserly (Tribes).
A big thank you to our delegate Decky McKerr, all our referees and table officials and in particular to Tournament Director, Teresa Moran for running the tournament over the weekend along with Swim Ireland’s Aveen Colvin who played a huge part in preparations for the weekend.
Also thank you to our pool providers and staff (University of Limerick) who were very obliging and helping in making hours available over the weekend and providing assistance over the course of the weekend.
