Sandycove & Half Moon win U13 Cup 2024 titles

After a fantastic weekend of water polo, Sandycove have come away with the U13 trophy after beating fellow Dublin club Half Moon in the U13 Girls Cup final in Belfast. With both clubs winning their respective groups, Sandycove faced Tribes in their semi-final where they were comfortable winners (18-4), while the second semi-final proved a much tighter affair where Half Moon faced Bangor Barracudas with the game finishing 13-11 at full time. The final was a strong show from the Sandycove Girls, with them beating Half Moon 16-5 to win the 2024 U13 Cup title.
In the 3rd/4th playoff Bangor Barracudas claimed the bronze medal with an 11-10 win over Tribes.
Girls MVP of the tournament was Lucy Mowlds (Sandycove).
In the boys cup Half Moon played a stormer beating Sandycove in an exciting final. With both sides coming out on top of their respective groups (3 wins from 3), Half Moon faced Clonard in their semi-final where they remained unbeaten (11-2) going into the final. Sandycove faced a much tougher route to the final, after they came up against a strong Corrib side where they managed to narrowly secure their spot in the final, with full time score of 6-5. In the final, it was Half Moon side who proved too strong, winning 11-3.
In the 3rd/4th playoff, Corrib won the bronze medal beating Clonard 7-4.
Boys MVP of the tournament was Joey Veitch (Half Moon).
A big thank you to our delegate Decky McKerr, and all our referees, many of whom refereed their first matches over the weekend. Thank you to our table officials, President of Ireland Water Polo Adrian Hanna Sr. who was in attendance for the presentations of medals and in particular to our Tournament Directors, Phil Kelly and Jane Reilly for organising and running the tournament over the weekend along with Swim Ireland’s Aveen Colvin and Kirstie Stevenson who played a huge part in preparations for the weekend.
Also thank you to the Lisnasharragh Pool manager and the staff located in Lisnasharragh Leisure Centre who were very obliging in making hours available over the weekend and providing assistance when needed.
