Semi-Finalists Decided for Irish Senior Water Polo Cups

The eight semi-finalists for the 2022 Irish Men and Women’s Senior Water Polo Cups have been decided at UL Sport Arena in Limerick today following two days of group stages.
The Women’s semi-finals will be contested by Drogheda, Cathal Brugha (Belfast), St Vincents (Dublin) and Tribes (Galway). Drogheda topped the Group A table with wins over Cathal Brugha (6-4) and North Dublin (12-7), while St. Vincents claimed Group B with a comprehensive 22-7 victory over Tribes.
Drogheda will face Tribes in the first semi-final and 2021 Champions St. Vincents will be aiming for a tenth consecutive cup victory if they can overcome Cathal Brugha in the second semi-final.
In the Men’s Cup, Cathal Brugha, Clonard WPC (Belfast), St Vincents WPC and Corrib (Galway) have all progressed following the completion of the group stages. In Group A, 2021 Champions Cathal Brugha had wins over Clontarf (26-6), Clonard (14-6) and North Dublin (8-5) while Clonard finished second with wins against North Dublin (8-7) and Clontarf (13-4). Group B saw Corrib top the table after they narrowly beat St Vincents (6-5) and had earlier wins over Drogheda (9-3) and Sandycove (8-5). St Vincents finished second in the group having beaten Sandycove (14-7) and Drogheda (16-6).
In tomorrow’s semi-finals, Cathal Brugha will play St Vincent’s while Corrib face Clonard for a place in the final.
The semi-finals start at 8.30am tomorrow (Saturday) in UL Sport with the finals throwing in, later the same day, at 5.15pm for women and 6.45pm for men.
