Irish U17 Girls finish 15th at European Championships

4th August 2023

The Irish U17 girls team have finished 15th at the European U17 Championships which was held in Manisa, Turkey from the 30th July to the 5th August 2023.

The Irish girls had a tough start against some strong teams including Great Britain, hosts Turkey and Serbia but improved their performance with each match and had a great result in their fourth game beating Ukraine 10-7 meaning they finished 4th in their group to progress to the 13th -16th Playoffs. There they narrowly lost out to Romania 8-7 meaning they faced Switzerland in the 15th/16th place playoff with the girls coming out on top 5-2 with a strong performance to finish the week on a high.

We are very proud of the team and what they have achieved together to date and we look forward to seeing them back in the water next season.

We want to say a very big thank you to our team staff; Steve Nolan (HC), Mick Kelly (AC) and Anne Crosbie (TM) who have given up so much of their time this year to help and support the girls in their development as a squad and without their time and dedication trips like these would not be possible.

Congratulations also to our Referee Decky McKerr who was selected by LEN as the Irish referee for this weeks tournament.
