Ireland Water Polo is governed by Swim Ireland.
Organisation Overview
The Irish Water Polo Association (IWPA) was established in 1964. In 2013 the IWPA subsumed into Swim Ireland and the sport is now run by the National Water Polo Committee under the auspices of Swim Ireland. They oversee the sport of water polo and in turn are responsible to the Swim Ireland Board of Directors.
Through Swim Ireland, Ireland Water Polo (IWP) is affiliated to the World Governing Body (FINA) and the European Governing Body (LEN).
On the competition front, there are Irish Championships (Cups) at senior, under 19, under 17, under 15 and under 13 levels for men and women. There are also senior National Leagues, which run from September to April. All National Water Polo competitions are held under FINA and LEN Rules.
IWP also fields National Teams for men (senior and junior) and women (senior and junior).
In conjunction with Swim Ireland, IWP offers coaching qualifications at Level 1 and Level 2.
The running of the sport is assisted and supported by Swim Ireland and Sport Ireland.
