Half Moon and Corrib win U13 Cup titles
29th October 2023
As Half Moon celebrate their 125th anniversary next week, they will have another trophy to add to their roll of honour after they beat fellow Dublin club Sandycove in this evenings U13 Girls Cup final in Galway. With both clubs winning their respective groups with 3 wins out of 3, Half Moon faced Clonard in their semi final where they were comfortable winners (13-1), while the second semi final proved a much tighter affair with Sandycove facing 2022 winners Tribes with the game finishing 4-4 at full time with Sandycove advancing after a penalty shoot out (9-7) to take their place in the final. The final was just as close with Half Moon edging it out 5-4 to win their first U13 Cup title.
In the 3rd/4th playoff Tribes claimed the bronze medal with an 11-8 win over Clonard.
Girls MVP of the tournament was Robyn Duffy (Half Moon).
In the boys cup Corrib retained their Boys U13 cup title beating Sandycove in what was a repeat of the 2022 final. With both sides drawn in the same group, Corrib progressed as group winners after winning 11-6 in their 1st meeting. Corrib remained unbeaten winning their quarter final (11-0) against Half Moon and their semi final (15-2) against St Vincents to progress to the final. Sandycove faced a much harder route to the final, after beating Clonard (6-2) in their quarter final, they came up against a strong Cathal Brugha side where it finished 7-7 at full time, with Dublin side matching their girls by winning their semi final on a penalty shoot (10-8) to take their place in the final. In the final, it was the Galway side who proved too strong, winning 10-4, as they won the U13 cup title for the third year in a row.
In the 3rd/4th playoff, Cathal Brugha won the bronze medal beating St Vincents 13-1.
Boys MVP of the tournament was Luka Sablic (Corrib).
